He calls me to the same work of reconciliation that He was involved in and that He has accomplished.

I hear this term “reconciliation” bandied about quite a bit by liberals, especially those who are litigating against us. I’m not sure what it means in that context.

So, yes, if I think my brother or sister is involved in sin, I do believe that my response is to pray that God may bring healing.

I guess this means that you will not confront your brother about his sin and expect that God the Holy Spirit will do it for you.

Father Dale,
I’m using reconciliation in its Biblical sense: 2 Corinthians 5:18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation;  19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us.

I also mean reconciliation in the context of its usage in the Holy Eucharist: “...you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Father of all.”

In regard to confrontation, I believe God leads us into communities of faith so that we can support one another in our life in Christ. Sometimes this takes the form of confrontation, but it seems to me more commonly to be a fundamental part of our relationships with one another—the community of sinners in need of a Savior and Lord.

Well now, I am preparing for MP/HE for Wednesday, the Feast of Augustine of Canterbury and guess what the Epistle Lesson is from? 2 Cor 5: 17-20. I may just draw the Homily from this lesson. Paul uses variations on reconcile four times in this passage.

Hello Dale+, I’ll be using the Corinthians text tonight, continuing to wrestle with reconciliation. Hope you are well, Randy+
