Craig Uffman has written an excellent piece here on Covenant asking Where was God in the earthquake? Here are some other resources that might help as we all seek to make sense of this question:

Episcopalian priest, preacher and author, Fleming Rutledge has helpful reflections on the Haitian Calamity at Generous Orthodoxy.

Scott Gunn, rector of Christ Church in Lincoln, Rhode Island wonders about Redemption in Haiti at Seven Whole Days.

There is an interesting conversation at Beliefnet between the Rt. Rev. Tom Wright, Bishop of Durham and Bart Erhman, New Testament scholar of UNC, Chapel Hill, around the question, Is our pain God’s problem?

Frank Logue, vicar of King of Peace Episcopal Church, Kingsland, GA, has put together a video resonse to Pat Robertson’s comments.

My own reflections on Suffering and the Wildness of God are at Into the Expectation.

Some books (all three are surprisingly short and accessible) that I have found edifying in this regard are:

David Bentley Hart’s The Doors of the Sea which Craig mentioned.

Another fine book on the subject is Arthur C. McGill’s Suffering: a Test of Theological Method.

One of my all-time favorite books is Robert Farrar Capon’s, The Third Peacock which can also be found in The Romance of the Word.
